Global superstar and recording artist Akon is lending his star power to a cause that is dear to his heart-providing power to the millions of people who lack access in Africa. Almost most 600 million people-representing close to half of the world’s people who do not have access to power. Through his Akon Lighting Africa Foundation, the Senegalese American singer is working with governments and private sector players to deliver electricity solutions in low income rural communities in Africa. Akon and his two co-founders of the foundation believe in using market based approaches, rather than charity, in delivering solutions to Africa.
